Before we move onto Paris, the final destination of fashion week, a round up of the best moments of Milan is required. Lets get it over with so we can all go to Paris.
In just one year since Alessandro Michele arrived at Gucci along with CEO Marco Bizzarri, Gucci has triumphed back to the Tom Ford 2004 glory days. The combination of both beautiful designs and intelligent marketing should be credited with this comeback that took place just a year ago. Fast forwarding a year, it is hard to go on to social media and not be confronted with beautiful Gucci golden loafers or see bloggers such as Margaret Zhang revealing their latest work capturing their vibrant clothes. This collection didn’t fail to continue on Alessandro’s theme of success, there were frills, pearls and enigmatic patterns that all tied together in pleasing way.
For a few seasons now we’ve seen the 70s on the runway, especially with Saint Laurent, Chloe and Gucci, leaving myself to question if we’re ready to move on yet. Roberto Cavalli‘s AW16 collection cemented that this fixation on the decade that brought us the skinny scarf and v-necks is probably going to continue for some time, which isn’t too bad of an idea. There was no denying what Peter Dundas was trying to say with this collection, with sequined scarves wrapped around every models neck and matching python boots it was obvious that the women of Cavalli are the cool girls who are captured at parties looking like they’re in a 70s Vogue editorial dream!
Some collections fall short of displaying clothes that are actually wearable in the colder months, Blumarine was not one of them. With fur edging of dresses, fur chokers and fur embedded belts, there was no failure in understanding this was an Autumn/Winter collection. Something tells me that Anna Mollinari doesn’t appreciate the cold, perhaps it was the opening look which featured a monstrous fur coat.
Salvatore Ferragamo was as pretty as the licorice all sorts that the collection resembled. Judging by the runway which displayed candy inspired coloured stripes, it was predictable that the collection wasn’t going to showcase models wearing an all black attire. However, nothing in fashion is predictable and the opening look was just that, all black, but my guess wasn’t too far off with the collection revealing delicious range of colours.
